LEADING POLITICAL ENVIRONMENTAL ORGANIZATION APPLAUDS NATURAL RESOURCE DAMAGE LAWSUITS OVER CONTAMINATION OF RIVERFRONT SITES

TRENTON – The following is a statement from Ed Potosnak, Executive Director of New Jersey League of Conservation Voters, on lawsuits filed by the New Jersey Office of the Attorney General and the New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection against Solvay, Arkema Inc., and Honeywell demanding accountability for the companies contamination of public and private water sources.

“New Jersey, under the leadership of Attorney General Grewal and Commissioner McCabe is a national leader in environmental justice enforcement, and we support the decision today to file lawsuits targeting these polluters,” said Ed Potosnak, Executive Director of New Jersey LCV. “We know that PFAS, a forever toxin, and other chemicals are linked to adverse health effects such as cancer, but Solvay, Arkema Inc., and Honeywell have been slow to take responsibility for their contamination. We are proud to see the administration fight to ensure these companies remediate their pollution, protect drinking water sources, and restore the natural resources they’ve damaged. These lawsuits have historically recovered millions of dollars to compensate the local communities for environmental damages and are well worth the effort.”
