LEADING POLITICAL ENVIRONMENTAL ORGANIZATION ASK FOR RESTORATION OF LEAD INFRASTRUCTURE REPLACEMENT FUNDING IN FY21 BUDGET PROPOSAL

TRENTON – The following is a statement from Ed Potosnak, Executive Director of New Jersey League of Conservation Voters, on the need to prioritize lead infrastructure replacement funding in the FY21 budget.

"We know resources in New Jersey are stretched thin right now, but people urgently need clean, safe water in their homes, especially as temperatures soar and frequent hand washing is essential to preventing COVID-19's deadly spread," said Ed Potosnak, Executive Director New Jersey LCV. "We urge the Governor and state lawmakers to keep their commitment to replacing lead water lines and protecting our children from lead poisoning in the FY21 budget. We ask that the existing $10 million remain in the budget for all types of Lead Hazard Control projects and that they reinstitute the $80 million previously committed towards lead infrastructure replacement. Health and safety must always come first even in the midst of budget cuts."
