LEADING POLITICAL ENVIRONMENTAL GROUP CELEBRATES PASSAGE OF SEVERAL LANDMARK BILLS IN NEW JERSEY LEGISLATURE ENVIRONMENT COMMITTEES
TRENTON – The following is a statement from Ed Potosnak, Executive Director of New Jersey League of Conservation Voters, on several important bills passed in the New Jersey Legislature’s environmental committees today.
"Today was an exciting day for the environment in the New Jersey Legislature as both the Senate Energy and Environment and the Assembly Environment and Solid Waste Committees met to consider a number of important environmental bills,” said Ed Potosnak, Executive Director, New Jersey League of Conservation Voters.
Notable bills passed out of their respective committees include:
Senate Energy and Environment Committee:
S2484 (Clean Energy Equity Act) – Seeks to reduce energy burdens in low-income, environmental justice communities. NJLCV is proud to be a member of the NJ Shines Coalition driving this legislation forward.
SR57 – Urges the Governor and Attorney General to pursue legal action against fossil fuel companies for damages caused by climate change
Assembly Environment and Solid Waste Committee:
A2152 - Gives green buildings a priority in permit reviews
A2374 - Establishes a C-PACE program that can further accelerate more clean energy investments
A1993/S349 – Requires developers to offer electric vehicle charging stations as an option in certain new home construction
S232/A2212 – Addresses cumulative impacts in overburdened communities; this would be the strongest bill addressing environmental justice in the United States.
“These bills get us one step closer to our post COVID-19 sustainable green jobs recovery, which prioritizes investments in the critical sectors that reduce emissions, address racial public health disparities and help establish a stronger and fairer 21st century clean energy future for all New Jerseyans,” added Potosnak.
