LEADING POLITICAL ENVIRONMENTAL GROUP CELEBRATES HUMAN RIGHTS IN DACA DECISION

TRENTON – The following is a joint statement from the staff at the New Jersey League of Conservation Voters, on today’s U.S. Supreme Court decision protecting hundreds of thousands of young Dreamers, many of whom are people of color, and rely on the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) program.

“New Jersey League of Conservation Voters celebrates the protection of Human Rights and stands in solidarity with the immigrant community and other people of color in their struggle for equal rights in our country. The decision by the U.S. Supreme Court to uphold DACA is a step against the deeply embedded racism and injustice that immigrant communities, most of whom are people of color,  face every day,” said staff at the New Jersey League of Conservation Voters. “We take pride in the diversity of our New Jersey community. Nearly one-quarter of New Jersey’s population was born in another country, while one in six residents is a native-born U.S. citizen with at least one immigrant parent. We have said it before, and we will say it again, there is no environmental justice without racial and social justice.”
