Assemblyman John F. McKeon
Assemblyman John F. McKeon has served in the New Jersey General Assembly since 2002, where he represents the 27th Legislative District, which covers municipalities such as Maplewood, Madison, and West Orange. He is also a former mayor of the Township of West Orange.
Assemblyman McKeon is one of the state’s leading legislative advocates for protecting New Jersey’s environment. In 2004, he authored the historic Highlands Water Protection and Planning Act to safeguard thousands of acres of land in the Highlands Region. He was a primary sponsor of the Global Warming Response Act and the landmark Clean Renewable Energy Bill, which catalyzed our nation’s leading offshore wind program, mandated aggressive annual energy efficiency targets, and expanded access to clean energy through a community solar pilot program. He was also a primary sponsor of the Clean Stormwater and Flood Reduction Act.
Assemblyman McKeon currently serves as Chair of the Judiciary Committee and Vice-Chair of the Environment and Solid Waste Committee, and he is a member of the Financial Institutions and Insurance Committee. He has served as Deputy Speaker, Majority Whip, Assistant Majority Leader, and Assistant Majority Whip from 2004 to 2005
