Largest Legislative Investments in New Jersey LCV History Brings Wins Statewide for Pro-Environment Candidates
New Jersey League of Conservation Voters (New Jersey LCV), the political voice for the environment in New Jersey, helped frontline candidates reach commanding victories in one of the winningest elections for environmental advocates in recent history.
New Jersey LCV invested upwards of $300,000 in legislative races this year through its coordinated (New Jersey League of Conservation Voters PAC) and independent expenditure (New Jersey League of Conservation Voters Victory Fund) arms to elect pro-environment candidates across the state Senate and state Assembly, picking up at least four seats.
“Undoubtedly, the environment won this election. We made unprecedented investments in legislative races from top to bottom in this state and claimed several decisive victories for pro-environment candidates.” said Ed Potosnak, Executive Director of New Jersey LCV. “Voters overwhelmingly demonstrated support for clean energy and rejected the fear mongering and lies spread by extreme MAGA candidates and the fossil fuel industry.”
New Jersey LCV’s investments supported over 2.5 million contacts to voters across the state; including 131,000 pieces of mail, 135,000 emails to members and 2.4 million digital ad impressions.
Separately, and apart New Jersey LCV’s nonpartisan 501(c)3 arm helped drive voter turnout. A digital ad run by New Jersey LCV featuring U.S. Senator Cory Booker logged over 1 million views and 3 million impressions across platforms.
Big polluters and their allies spent millions of dollars in ads and voter communications attacking clean energy leaders, but failed to capture targeted legislature seats, demonstrating that continued strong action to combat the climate crisis and build a 21st century clean energy economy that creates union jobs.
To help ensure these victories, New Jersey LCV PAC also deployed organizers across the state to support endorsed candidates.
“New Jersey LCV looks forward to working with the environmental champions we helped elect to realize this vision of a state that prioritizes green energy, open space protection, clean air and water, and justice for communities of color that have been left behind,” Potosnak said. “These results send a clear message to our elected partners that it’s time to double down on support for the environment by passing 100% by 2035 clean energy legislation and doubling down on commitments on offshore wind and union jobs.”
The New Jersey League of Conservation Voters is a non-partisan organization whose mission is to elect environmental champions, hold public officials accountable, and support laws which protect our environment and improve the quality of people’s lives.
