Joann Downey

Assemblywoman Joann Downey (D) represents the 11th Legislative District and is running for re-election. Downey was born in Jersey City, New Jersey. Growing up she received a Bachelor of Arts from Rutgers University in Political Science and English. She went on to complete a Juris Doctor from New York Law School and a Master’s of Social work from Boston University School of Social Work.  She currently works as a Trial Attorney for Dimian & Masterpalo. She was elected to the General Assembly in 2015.

Since joining the legislature, Downey has been a conservation advocate, sponsoring open space and farmland preservation legislation and promoting oceans protections. Downey has also actively supported clean energy programs, lead testing for water and soil, and drinking water protections.
