New Jersey LCV's Statement on Decision by the U.S. Department of Transportation
for Rating Improvement on the Portal North Bridge Project
TRENTON, NJ – Ed Potosnak, Executive Director of the New Jersey League of Conservation Voters, released the following statement on the rating improvement for the Portal North Bridge Project.
"We celebrate the announcement by the U.S. Department of Transportation regarding the upgraded rating for the Portal North Bridge Project. While this is a great first step in acquiring the funding necessary to improve our rail lines, federal funding is urgently needed to build a new tunnel under the Hudson River. Improving our rail system is critical to encouraging drivers to use mass transportation, which would lead to less air pollution, as one train could take 500 cars off the road. We will continue to work with our federal and state representatives to support and push for the critical funding necessary to improve rail transportation in New Jersey."
