New Jersey LCV Strongly Opposes Giveaway to Big Fossil Fuel Companies on the Backs of Consumers

TRENTON – The following is a statement from Ed Potosnak, Executive Director of New Jersey League of Conservation Voters, regarding Assembly bill (A577) in the Telecommunications and Utilities Committee, which would direct the BPU to establish a program concerning renewable natural gas and provide gas public utilities with a customer rate recovery mechanism for costs associated with the program.

"We strongly oppose this giveaway to wealthy oil and gas corporations. This bill would saddle working families with the cost of building expensive fossil fuel infrastructure, like new pipelines and compressor stations — and it would do so on the heels of massive natural gas rate hikes,” said Ed Potosnak, Executive Director, New Jersey LCV. “This legislation is greenwashing at its worst. It will raise energy costs for consumers and double down on dirty fossil fuels at the very moment when New Jersey must lead the nation in transitioning to clean, renewable energy that will save working families and local businesses money even as we fight climate change."
