New Jersey LCV Reacts To Recent Brown University Report on Anti-Wind Disinformation Campaigns

TRENTON – The following is a statement from Ed Potosnak, Executive Director, New Jersey LCV regarding a recent 22-page report by the Climate and Development Lab at Brown University, which examines the disinformation used by anti-wind groups to argue against offshore wind.

“The comprehensive Brown University report highlights the harm caused by fossil fuel funded misinformation campaigns, like we've seen from the same Caesar Rodney Institute that is active in New Jersey pushing an anti-offshore wind agenda, but the report also identifies the necessity of development of offshore wind to protect coastal communities and our oceans for generations to come. The shameful misinformation campaigns are attempting to delay movement towards clean energy, healthier communities, increased domestic control over energy production, and the creation of good local, family-sustaining jobs,” said Ed Potosnak, Executive Director, New Jersey LCV. “The greatest threat to the ocean is climate change and New Jersey LCV and our partners will not be distracted by Big Oil bankrolling misinformation campaigns across America. We will continue to follow the science, and keep momentum towards a 21st century clean energy economy that will clean our air, slow the warming of our oceans, and create good, local jobs - all while actually protecting the Jersey Shore. It’s unfortunate that we also have to battle the misinformation that is perpetuated by these fossil-fuel backed organizations.”
