NEW JERSEY LCV REACTS TO 21 COUNTIES IN NEW JERSEY DECLARING A DROUGHT WATCH

The following is a statement from Ed Potosnak, Executive Director, New Jersey LCV regarding 21 counties in New Jersey declaring a drought watch.

“We are disheartened to hear that we are entering into a drought watch during the height of these hot summer days. By taking steps to conserve our precious freshwater resources now, we will hopefully avoid a drought emergency,” said Ed Potosnak, Executive Director, New Jersey LCV. “While we take steps to conserve water today, we also need to plan for our climate future, or these severe climate conditions will keep repeating like a TV rerun. Governor Murphy needs to release an updated water supply master plan, enact the Protecting Against Climate Threats rules through the NJDEP, and invest even more in energy efficiency and electrification. Climate change in New Jersey results in either too much water or not enough. Until we end our addiction to fossil fuels and fully switch to clean energy sources, we will continue to see severe weather events.
