NEW JERSEY LCV APPLAUDS GOVERNOR MURPHY AND DEP ON REVISION OF NJ PACT RULES

TRENTON – The following is a statement from Ed Potosnak, Executive Director of New Jersey League of Conservation Voters, regarding a decision by the Murphy Administration and the New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection (DEP), to renew the stakeholder process to update the New Jersey Protecting Against Climate Threats (NJPACT) rules.

“We commend Governor Murphy and the DEP for taking this important step toward implementing the NJPACT flood hazard rules to protect families and businesses from flooding. Storm season is here, and we can’t continue to repeat preventable, tragic loss of life year after year. We urge rapid rule proposal introduction and adoption to protect lives, health, and property,” said Ed Potosnak, Executive Director, New Jersey League of Conservation Voters. “Unfortunately as we approach the 10th anniversary of Super Storm Sandy, we are still planning developments using rainfall data from the 1990s. That’s why this decision to move forward with updating the NJPACT rules is so important. These rules are literally a matter of life and death for New Jerseyans, and we urge the Murphy Administration and DEP to introduce the rules formally by the Sandy Anniversary.”
