NEW JERSEY LCV APPLAUDS FERC ACTION REGARDING NESE PIPELINE
TRENTON – The following is a statement from Ed Potosnak, Executive Director of New Jersey League of Conservation Voters, regarding a letter sent by the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) today asking Williams Transco to better explain themselves regarding a request for an extension to its certificate for the unneeded Northeast Supply Enhancement (NESE) pipeline project.
“We are pleased that FERC is questioning whether Williams Transco has acted in good faith. Williams Transco has done nothing to address the serious environmental concerns raised by the New York and New Jersey environmental agencies. We don’t need NESE. It poses a threat to clean air, clean water, wildlife, and the health and safety of our communities,” said Ed Potosnak, Executive Director, New Jersey LCV. “NESE is a prime example of a ‘zombie pipeline’ - projects that continue to try to be built long after it’s determined they are not in the best interest of ratepayers and our environment. This project goes against all New Jersey’s efforts to move toward a 21st century clean energy future. We will continue to fight efforts like Williams Transco’s that will keep us dependent on dirty fossil fuels and delay our transition to clean, renewable energy.”
