NEW JERSEY LCV APPLAUDS THE DELAWARE RIVER WATER BASIN COMMISSION DECISION TO BAN FRACKING IN DELAWARE RIVER REGION
TRENTON – The following statement is from Ed Potosnak, Executive Director, New Jersey League of Conservation Voters and Patty Cronheim, Campaigns Director, New Jersey League of Conservation Voters, on the decision by the Delaware River Basin Commission (DRBC) to ban fracking in the Delaware River region.
“We congratulate the Delaware River Basin Commission for protecting this vital waterway and source of drinking water for millions of people by banning this dangerous practice. Allowing fracking in the Delaware River region would have put drinking water for millions of people at risk,” said Ed Potosnak, Executive Director, New Jersey LCV. “I recall standing along the Delaware with Governor Murphy in his first 100 days as he pledged to ban fracking in the Basin, we couldn’t be more pleased this day has come, and he delivered on his promise to protect this critical drinking water source for our state.”
“Preventing fracked drilling for methane gas in the Delaware River Basin not only helps protect our precious drinking water, health and safety, but it safeguards our economy,” said Patty Cronheim, Campaigns Director, New Jersey LCV. “The industry promised prosperity from fracking, but it turns out to be just the opposite - a drain on local economies. Communities where fracking is allowed lost more jobs, income, and population than the national average – simply put, there is no local prosperity from fracking, only harm.”
