LEADING ENVIRONMENTAL GROUP OPPOSES TRUMP ADMINISTRATION'S LAX FUEL EFFICIENCY STANDARDS
TRENTON – The following statement is from Ed Potosnak, Executive Director of New Jersey League of Conservation Voters, on efforts by the Trump administration to roll back Obama-era fuel efficiency standards.
“Since day one of the Trump administration, federal clean car standards were on the chopping block, and we are sad to see the Trump administration moving forward with their devastating plan,” said Ed Potosnak, Executive Director, New Jersey League of Conservation Voters. “There is no upside for going backwards on the fuel efficiency standard. The result will be a billion more tons of climate-inducing emissions over the lifetime of the cars and billions in increased costs to drivers due to lowered efficiency standards. We are grateful that in New Jersey, led by the greenest Governor in America, Phil Murphy, and a pro-conservation legislature, we are still able to make significant progress in the face of federal inaction. In January, Governor Murphy signed the bipartisan, nation-leading electric vehicle bill, which seeks to reduce greenhouse gas emissions from our transportation sector. This is the kind of leadership we need.”
