Washington, D.C. – The League of Conservation Voters (LCV) Action Fund, which works to elect candidates who will support sound environmental policies, announced today its endorsement of Representative Josh Gottheimer for re-election in New Jersey’s 5th Congressional District.

“LCV Action Fund is excited to endorse Josh Gottheimer for re-election because he has been a leader for the environment and public health,” said LCV Action Fund Senior Vice President of Government Affairs Tiernan Sittenfeld. “He has worked tirelessly for safe drinking water for all and against offshore drilling in the Atlantic Ocean. We need his voice in Congress to continue fighting for the health and wellbeing of New Jersey families.”

“Since his first Congressional race, Josh Gottheimer has been fighting for cleaner air and clean water for New Jersey’s families and businesses,” said New Jersey League of Conservation Voters Executive Director Ed Potosnak. “Josh’s continued membership on the bipartisan Climate Solutions Caucus in Congress will only become more important as we stand up to polluters and find common sense solutions to our growing climate problems. This election will be one of the most important elections of our lives, and I know that the 5th congressional district can count on Josh Gottheimer to safeguard their environment and protect their health.”

“LCV is an incredible partner in the fight for clean air and clean water for Jersey families, and I am honored to have LCV Action Fund’s endorsement today,” said Josh Gottheimer. “In Congress, I have worked across the aisle and with local, state, and federal officials to claw back federal resources to New Jersey to help clean up our communities, get lead out of our drinking water, and stop offshore drilling at the Jersey Shore. Keeping North Jersey’s water and air free of pollution is a not a Democrat or Republican issue, it’s just a good for New Jersey families issue.”

Josh Gottheimer was first elected to represent New Jersey’s 5th Congressional District in 2016. In his first term he sponsored the Lead Free Schools Act of 2017 to address lead contamination in drinking water and co-sponsored legislation to permanently reauthorize the Land and Water Conservation Fund, to protect Red Rocks and the Arctic, and for the Secretary of Energy to create an energy efficiency materials pilot program. Gottheimer’s commitment to protecting clean air and water and public lands helped him earn an 83 percent on LCV’s 2017 National Environmental Scorecard.
