DELAWARE RIVER FIRES A REMINDER OF CLIMATE CRISIS
TRENTON, NJ- Ed Potosnak, Executive Director of New Jersey League of Conservation Voters, released the following statement about the recent fires in the Delaware River Water Gap:
“Fires aren’t only an issue in the Amazon, California or Australia,” said Ed Potosnak, Executive Director, New Jersey League of Conservation Voters. “On a beautiful sunny day as hundreds of people from throughout the tri-state area were hiking, they witnessed the destruction of one of the state’s beloved recreational areas. While the cause of the blaze is unknown, we have reason to suspect that climate change had a role in these fires due to lack of snowpack and draught. This is a reminder that while we may think the impacts of climate change are far off or only remember glimmers of Superstorm Sandy, we need to think again. We will continue to work with our partners, legislators and the Murphy Administration to ensure New Jersey is doing its part to address the climate crisis.”
