ENVIRONMENTAL CAMPAIGNS ORGANIZERS

We seek full-time Environmental Campaigns Organizers who are excited about working with a dynamic Campaigns and outreach department, and strive for further professional growth and development as they help support and deliver the clean energy campaigns and outreach initiatives we undertake. Responsibilities:

  • Under the supervision of the Senior Manager, Campaigns, help develop and support campaign plans, targets, strategies and tactics that focus primarily on clean energy alternatives and in particular, offshore wind initiatives; assume responsibility for supporting, organizing and growing various campaigns as assigned.
  • Collaborate and plan advocacy with other staff organizers, partners and allies; conducting educational forums and community outreach to ensure broad state-wide support.
  • Assist in helping grow and develop NJLCV’s volunteer activists initiative, with a focus on activist engagement and utilizing volunteer resources for organizing and other activities.
  • Coordinate and plan volunteer engagement events; recruit, train, manage and cultivate volunteers and canvassers for effective collective action and outreach including phone banking, signature petition drives, texting, in-person education activities, and storytelling.
  • Conduct outreach to local environmental organizations, community/senior centers, religious affiliates, housing cooperatives, high schools/universities, businesses and other grass-roots entities as appropriate; helping cultivate positive relationships and develop strong community ties and partnerships.
  • Ensure all activities are conducted in a manner consistent with state and federal regulations.
  • Other duties as assigned by supervisor.

Experience:

  • Basic understanding of, and ability to navigate political landscape in New Jersey
  • Prior success with coalition building, support, and coordination preferred
  • Demonstrated success recruiting volunteer activists, and mobilizing public support, particularly in environmentally challenged communities
  • Prior experience with field organizing and designing grassroots organizing campaigns
  • Prior work with immigrant communities, communities of color, or related work experience highly preferred
  • Prior experience training, coordinating and managing canvassing staff preferred
  • Working knowledge of Voter Activation Network (VAN), Every Action, Mobilize and Catalist preferred
  • Bi-lingual Spanish language skills a plus

Position Requirements:
These are full-time positions based in Hamilton, NJ with significant remote site work along the coastal Jersey shore and Central Jersey areas. Travel throughout New Jersey will be necessary so a valid driver’s license and continuous access to a car are required, along with the ability to maintain a flexible schedule common to campaigns.

These positions are supported by grant funding, with the strong likelihood of continuation, dependent upon additional funding and the possibility of advancement.

Salary Range: $40,000 - $55,000 annually, commensurate with experience, plus a very generous and comprehensive benefits package. Ranges are based on an external and organizational wage analysis, noting that new staff rarely start at the top of a range.
